How Do I Listen?

A busy world-renowned performer shares his listening habits. Born into a musical family in 1979 as a dual citizen of Germany and Canada, Johannes Moser began studying the cello at the age of eight. He is now “one of the finest among the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists” (Gramophone Magazine).
"Music is an essential part of my life: When I am not performing, I love to listen to pieces that I don´t get to play myself, like symphonies, operas and of course music of other genres. Given my busy concert schedule, I travel around the globe for most of the year. However, being on the road does not mean that I want to make any compromise when it comes to sound quality and enjoyment of music.

When I travel I use noise-cancelling headphones by BOSE or Sennheiser to block out airplane noise and the hustle and bustle around me. I stopped listening to compressed files like mp3s altogether, since the lack of overtones and depth really takes a huge toll on the listening experience and does not do any justice to the music. Up until now, I therefore had to use a CD player or the DVD player of my laptop, or load my CDs without compression on my mobile devices. I am hugely excited about using primephonic because it serves my needs of an ultimate mobile lifestyle perfectly: I can acquire and listen to any of my favourite pieces of music, anytime, anywhere, without any concession to sound quality, brilliance and richness. Primephonic is truly taking my listening experience to the next level.”

Johannes Moser recently signed as an exclusive artist with the record label PENTATONE. His first release under the new deal will be of the Dvořák and Lalo cello concertos, recorded with the Prague Philharmonia and conductor Jakub Hrůša. The album, in SACD and as a high definition download, will be available on primephonic in September 2015.
Johannes Moser's concert schedule for the following months takes him to many corners of the globe: to name a few, Moser will be performing in Amsterdam's Muziekgebouw aan t'IJ on 29 May, at the Seoul Arts Centre on 5 June, at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival on 18 July and at the Hollywood Bowl on 13 August.
